Hi, I'm Carrie — and I hand-make things!

Welcome to Red Oak Roots! I'm a scroll saw and wood burning artist based in Kansas City, and every piece you'll find in this shop was made right here in my workshop, by me.

How It All Started

My love of woodworking didn't come from a class or a kit — it grew out of a deep appreciation for natural materials and the quiet satisfaction of turning a raw piece of wood into something beautiful. The scroll saw quickly became my favorite tool: there's something magical about guiding wood through a blade and watching an intricate design emerge. Wood burning (pyrography) came next, adding warmth, texture, and detail that makes each piece truly one-of-a-kind.

I'm proud to call Kansas City home, but my family first settled in the United States in Red Oak, Iowa from Wales. Hence that's where I got the name for my shop. The Midwest's rich tradition of craftsmanship and community has shaped who I am as an artist. Whether I'm sourcing local wood or drawing inspiration from the landscapes around me, my roots here run deep — just like the red oak trees that give this shop its name.

Handmade & One-of-a-Kind

Because every piece is cut and burned by hand, no two are exactly alike. Natural wood grain varies, burns take on their own character, and that's exactly the point. When you bring a Red Oak Roots piece into your home, you're getting something that could never be mass-produced — something made with intention, patience, and a whole lot of love for the craft.
